Quick Look: Strawberry Oatmeal Smoothie

⏱️ Time: 5 minutes (very quick to make)
🔌 Equipment Needed: Blender
🥣 Ingredients: old-fashioned oats, milk, strawberries, Greek yogurt
💡 Top Tip: Pre-blend the old-fashioned oats first so your smoothie is extra creamy and doesn’t have chunks of oats!

If you’re craving something sweet, but still want to pack in some nutrients, this strawberry oatmeal smoothie is just the thing. Frozen strawberries add natural sweetness, while oats and yogurt bring creaminess, protein, and fiber.

Be sure not to skip pre-blending the old-fashioned oats. Nobody wants a chunky oat filled smoothie. Give them a good whirl in the blender at first and you will have a smooth, refreshing strawberry oatmeal smoothie!

It’s a simple blend of pantry and freezer staples that transforms into the perfect breakfast or snack recipe. It is also kid-friendly and you an easily adapt it to allergens in your family.

Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients in glass containers with labels on them
  • Old fashioned oats: You can swap for quick oats. If so, you don’t need to blend them first.
  • Milk: You can use any dairy or nondairy milk you have on hand. Keep in mind that milk with a higher fat content, such as whole milk or oat milk, will result in a creamier smoothie.
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Vanilla Greek yogurt: Or regular yogurt. If they are not vanilla flavored, you can add 1 teaspoon of vanilla when blending.
  • Honey or pure maple syrup: This is optional, but if you have a sweet tooth like me, I always add it!

How to make a strawberry oat smoothie

Step one: Place the old-fashioned oats in your blender. Blend until they are a fine powder. This will help create a smooth texture.

Step two: Pour in the remaining ingredients and blend again until all ingredients are well combined.

Equipment needed

  • 1 Blender

More add-ins

To add a bit more protein you can add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a tablespoon of chia seeds or flaxseeds.

Shredded coconut adds delicious flavor, and frozen avocado adds creaminess and healthy fats and does not affect the flavor.

How to store

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Give it a good stir before you enjoy it!

Tips for Success

Blending the old-fashioned oats beforehand creates a smoother texture.

Using frozen strawberries gives the smoothie a thick, frosty texture without the need for ice.
