Pretzel Christmas Trees

Christmastime is in full swing around here. I have several Christmas goodie swaps and Christmas parties happening. That means a lot of Christmas treats going on the kitchen. With a busy schedule and little kids in the house, I love this no bake Christmas dessert. This recipe requires very few ingredients and no use of the oven. The chocolate pretzel Christmas trees are FAST to make and turn out adorable.

It is such a fun twist on the normal chocolate dipped pretzels you are probably familiar with. Another perk of this recipe is that it uses half of a large pretzel stick, so the treat itself is much smaller. You then have double the amount of a treat you typically have if you simply just dip the pretzel sticks.

Ingredients in chocolate pretzel Christmas trees

Large pretzel rods: I like to use the full size rods in this recipe to have a thicker “trunk.” You can use mini pretzel sticks if you have them on hand.

Chocolate almond bark: It melts perfectly in the microwave and is so tasty.

Christmas sprinkles: Grab your favorite kind of sprinkles at the store. I will say that the gold sprinkles on the dark brown chocolate looks especially beautiful. I will definitely be looking for sprinkles with gold in them every time I make this recipe.

How to make chocolate pretzel Christmas trees

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Take 6 full sized pretzel rods and break in half.
  3. Lay out the 12 pretzels rods on the baking sheet about 2-3 inches apart.
  4. In a microwave safe bowl, melt 12 ounces of almond bark in the microwave according to package instructions (usually its about 1 minute of microwaving).
  5. Once melted, pour half of the almond bark into a ziplock bag and clip a small corner off the bag.
  6. Start drizzling the chocolate just above the top of the pretzel to form the “point” on the Christmas tree. Drizzle over the pretzel sticks in a back and forth motion, getting larger as you move towards the bottom. TIP: Use the broken side of the pretzel stick at the top of the tree so it is covered.
  7. Be sure to stop with enough pretzel stick to be the “trunk” at the bottom.
  8. Before the almond bark dries, sprinkle on the sprinkles.
  9. Allow them to dry and then transfer to a serving platter.

Tips for success

  • Have your pretzels out and on the parchment paper ready to go before melting the almond bark. This way the almond bark will not harden prior.
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean up!
  • Clip a small portion of the corner of the ziplock bag. You can always clip more, but if you do too big at first there is no going back!
  • When piping out the chocolate from the bag, start a bit above the pretzel stick to make the “point” of the Christmas tree. Use the broken side of the pretzel rod as the top of the tree so it is covered in chocolate.
