Over the years, I’ve heard of many different types of seafood boils—crawfish boils, crab boils, and shrimp boils. I’m a huge fan of all of them, but what I love about this recipe is how simple it is.

The shrimp cook extremely quickly, and the sausage is already precooked. This recipe comes together fast and is finished with the most delicious buttery seasoning. If you love this recipe, you will also enjoy Shrimp and Rice Bowl or this tasty Jambalaya with Sausage and Shrimp.

At first, I wasn’t sure if my whole family would enjoy it, but I was pleasantly surprised when I set the big platter in the center of the kitchen table and my kids excitedly began scooping portions onto their plates. It’s a fun dish because everyone can pick a little bit of what they enjoy.

Ingredients

Ingredients in bowls with labels on them
  • Potatoes: I used small red and white potatoes. Cut in 2-inch pieces, so they cook quickly. I left the skin on.
  • Raw shrimp: Peeled and deveined. This simply means to pull of the tail and encasing around the shrimp!
  • Fresh ears of corn
  • Precooked smoked sausage: Grab your favorite type. You can even get a spicy version if you prefer.
  • Old Bay seasoning: Some of this will go in the water while the food is boiling and then it will also go in the seasoning mixture.
  • Unsalted butter: The star of the show!
  • Garlic powder
  • Lemons
  • Yellow onion

  • 1 lb. small potatoes cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 lb. of raw shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 ears of corn cut into thirds
  • 12 ounces precooked smoked sausage cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 large yellow onion quartered
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning divided
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • In a large pot, fill with 4 quarts of water. Slice one lemon into quarters and place in the pot along with 1 tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning.

  • Serve with lemon wedges and enjoy!

Notes

To save time with this recipe, get your water boiling first and then begin chopping and preparing the rest of the ingredients. The water will boil faster with a lid on.
To add some spice: add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and you can pick a spicy sausage.
