Silly animal toasts are perfect for a quick breakfast, lunch, or snack. They’re also a fun activity to make with your kids. For my kids, I show them the picture collage above and they pick their favorite and assemble the faces—it’s a great way to get them excited about eating healthy. While the animal options are endless, pictured above are a few of our favorites.
All of these toasts are nut-free, using sunflower butter as one of the base spreads. With tree nut allergies in our family, we need a delicious nut free option. The other base spread is avocado or cream cheese, which adds a creamy contrast to the fresh fruit. Feel free to mix and match to suit your taste or what you have on hand.
The crunch of the toast, the creaminess of the spread, and the sweetness of the fruit make for a perfect combo. It’s a fun and easy way to whip up a nutritious snack for kids—or even the kid in you.
Ingredients
Base: Bread (wheat, sourdough, or your favorite type)
Spread: Sliced avocado, cream cheese or sunflower butter.
Face components: All of these use a combination of strawberries, blueberries, and bananas.
Bear Toast

Bear toast is made by spreading sunflower butter on bread. Use a sliced banana for the ears and nose. Then blueberries for the eyes and nose.
Cat Toast

To make cat toast, spread cream cheese on bread. Use two strawberries for 3 different components of the face: triangle ears, rectangle whiskers, and a semi-circle nose. Place two blueberries for the eyes.
Owl Toast

To make owl toast, spread cream cheese on the bread. Slice two strawberries for the wings and a semi-circle for the nose. Use bananas and blueberries for the eyes!
Bird Toast Face

To make this side profile of a parrot face, use sliced avocado and a strawberry triangle for the beak. Place a blueberry for the eyes.
Fish Toast

To make the fish animal toast, use sliced strawberries and form an oval. Place a strawberry on the top for a fin and two large triangles for the tail. To finish it off, use a blueberry for an eye.
Bunny Toast

To make the bunny face toast, use cream cheese as the base. Sliced bananas for the ears and whiskers. Two strawberries for the eyes and one blueberry for the nose.

- Quick: All you need to do is toast and top the bread!

Is this snack nut-free?
Yes, you can frequently see these made with peanut butter or nut butters, but these use the swap of sunflower butter. Wowbutter is another nut free option.

Toast: Can be swapped for a rice cake
Sunflower Butter: Wowbutter or biscoff cookie butter
Cream cheese: Greek yogurt, hummus, or avocado (remember that the color will impact the look of the animal).

Equipment
Ingredients
Select the ingredients based on which animal toast you are making:
- 1 Piece of bread toasted
- Cream cheese, avocado, or sunflower butter
- Fruit toppings blueberry, strawberry, bananas
Instructions
Bear Toast
- Spread sunflower butter on bread. Slice a banana for the ears and nose. Place blueberries for the eyes and nose.
Bunny Toast
- Spread cream cheese as the base. Use two long slices of bananas for the ears. Slice 6 long rectangles for whiskers. Use two small strawberries pieces for the eyes and one blueberry for the nose.
Cat Toast
- Spread cream cheese on the bread. This one typically requires two strawberries for the following: Two triangle ears, 6 long rectangle whiskers, and a semi-circle nose. Place two blueberries for the eyes.
Fish Toast
- Spread cream cheese on the bread. Slice small semi-circles out of a strawberry for the fish scales. I prefer to cut out about 20 small ones. Lay them on the bread and form an oval. Place a small slice of strawberry on the top for a fin and two large strawberry triangles for the tail. Use a blueberry for an eye.
Bird Toast (Parrot)
- Use 5 slices of avocado for the feathers. Cut out a triangle from strawberries for the beak. Place a blueberry for the eye.
Owl Toast
- Spread cream cheese on the bread. Slice two strawberries for the wings, a semi-circle or the nose. Place bananas and blueberries for the eyes.
Notes
- Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese.
- Wowbutter or biscoff cookie butter instead of sunflower butter. If you do not need this snack to be nut free you can use your favorite nut butter.
