I was in the middle of making a batch of cookie bars when I realized something was missing. I had planned to top them with whipped cream, but when I checked the fridge there was no store bought tub to be found. For a moment I considered skipping it, but then it hit me that I actually had everything I needed already. A carton of heavy cream and powdered sugar were sitting right there. By the time the cookies were done baking, I had the most fluffy, creamy whipped cream I had ever tasted.
That was the moment I realized homemade whipped cream is not only easy, but also so much better than anything from the store. The texture is light and fresh, and the flavor is rich without tasting artificial. Now whenever I need whipped cream, I reach for the mixing bowl instead of the grocery list. Once you try this simple two ingredient version, it is hard to go back.

Ingredients

- Heavy whipping cream: If needed you can also use heavy cream. I do not recommend using just “whipping cream.” I know, it’s confusing, but it comes down to the milk fat ratio!
- Powdered sugar: Also known as confectioners’ sugar. You can swap for white granulated sugar if needed.

Tips for Success
When making whipped cream you want the ingredients and equipment to be very cold. Use heavy whipping cream straight from the fridge and freeze the bowl and whisk first.
