This recipe came to mind when I was looking for an sweet glaze to top muffins with. I wanted something that was thinner than frosting to add just a bit of sweetness, flavor, and creaminess to each bite. This glaze is much thinner than your typical frosting. Cream cheese frosting is thick and can be a lot when prepared. This cream cheese frosting, is just the right amount of rich and sweetness.

  • Cream cheese: creamy and rich in flavor. Cream cheese is so delicious in a glaze!
  • Powdered sugar: used to thicken and sweeten the glaze
  • Unsalted butter: adds richness and flavor
  • Milk: helps to thin out the mixture so it isn’t an icing, but a glaze
  • Vanilla: adds great flavor to the icing

How to make the cream cheese glaze

In a medium size bowl, add in softened cream cheese and butter.

With a hand mixer on low speed, beat until smooth.

Add in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Beat again until smooth and creamy.

Tip: Add additional milk if you are looking to thin out the glaze more to make it easier to drizzle over your muffins.

I like to place the glaze in a Ziplock bag, clip a small bit of the corner of the bag and then drizzle it onto the muffins.
