Waffles without eggs

Whether or not you have an egg allergy or you simply just don’t have eggs on hand, these no egg waffles are the best recipe. You will not miss the eggs at all! Two of my kids have an egg allergy making many breakfast foods off limits. But what kid doesn’t love waffles?? I tried a few brands of store bought waffle mix without eggs, but we were not a fan. They were either chalky, too dry, or flavorless. After trying a few types of homemade waffles, we landed on this recipe as our favorite!

Ingredients in waffles without eggs

  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Milk (I used whole milk)
  • Unsalted butter (melted)
  • Honey (can sub for maple syrup or sugar)
  • Olive oil
  • Pure vanilla extract

How to make egg free waffles

  1. Plug in waffle iron and begin heating it
  2. Mix wet ingredients together in a large bowl (milk, melted butter, honey, olive oil, vanilla extract)
  3. In a small bowl mix the dry ingredients together (flour and baking powder). Combine and pour into the large bowl with wet ingredients. The batter will be fairly lumpy. Let the batter sit for 3-4 minutes to expand fully and not be so runny.
  4. Spray waffle iron with nonstick spray. Add batter to the waffle iron. My waffle maker is small and required 1/4 cup per waffle. In total it made 8 small waffles.

These pair great with fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, or ham.

Delicious toppings: blueberries, strawberries, honey, nut butter, chocolate chips, butter, maple syrup, or whipped cream.

Equipment needed

Waffle Iron/Waffle Maker – The brand featured here is the toastmaster mini waffle maker. It is very simple and cheap but gets the job done! If you have a larger family I’d recommend the Cuisinart round waffle maker to speed up the process of cooking them!

FAQ and substitutions

How to store and reheat? Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge. Pop them in the toaster to reheat.

Honey: You can sub for sugar or maple syrup.

Butter: If you don’t have butter on hand you can sub for olive oil, but the butter really adds flavor to this recipe.

Can you freeze waffles?

Yes! Once cooked, let the waffles cool completely and use a freezer Ziplock bag to freeze them. Separate the layers of waffles with parchment paper so the waffles don’t freeze together. You can let them thaw out overnight in the fridge or just pop them straight into the toaster frozen.

Maple syrup vs. Pancake syrup?

The biggest difference is simply the ingredients. Maple syrup has just 1 ingredient…..maple syrup! If you take a look at the back of the bottle of pancake syrup, the first 2 ingredients listed will likely be corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. On an ingredient label, the ingredients are listed from the highest quantity to the lowest quantity. Therefore, those are the main ingredients in pancake syrup.

Pancake syrup does come in a variety of options including “low sugar”. If cost is a large factor, pancake syrup will be cheaper! And many simply prefer the taste of pancake syrup over maple syrup. Including my husband who says, “I like the fake stuff!”
