I first heard about the benefits of tart cherry juice when I was in the throws of pregnancy insomnia. I was desperate for anything to promote sleep! I ran across the benefits of tart cherry juice and thus was born this simple tart cherry juice drink.

Does tart cherry juice help you sleep?

It will solve ALL your sleep problems! I am kidding, obviously : ) However, tart cherry juice does contain tryptophan and melatonin. Both of these help with regulating sleep. There are actually studies on tart cherry juice, such as this one. In my very unofficial study of myself and my two kids, we did wake less in the night and the first night my kids drank it, they slept an hour later than they normally do!

What type of tart cherry juice to buy?

You will want to be aware of the type of juice you are purchasing. Mainly, look at the added sugar content. You don’t want to be consuming a lot of sugar right before bed. I live in a smaller town so my in store options were limited. I chose the brand pictured below which has a low amount of sugar in the 2 tablespoons this recipe calls for.

This brand on amazon has even less sugar and keep in mind their serving size is 8 fl. oz and this recipe only calls for 2 tablespoons.

  • 100% Tart Cherry Juice
  • Lime sparkling water
  • Optional: Fresh lime juice, Squirt of sweetener such as stevia

How to make a tart cherry juice for sleep

It is SO easy!

  1. Fill a small class with 8 oz of lime sparkling water.
  2. Pour in 2 tablespoons of tart cherry juice.
  3. Stir and enjoy!
  4. Optional: You can add in a squeeze of fresh lime juice, top with frozen berries. If you want a sweeter flavor instead of just tart, add in a squirt of stevia.

When to drink it

I typically drink it about an hour before bedtime. Having a fun drink after the kids go to bed also helps keep me away from munching on all the unneeded snacks!

  • In a glass filled with ice, add your lime sparkling water
  • Add in tart cherry juice and give it a swirl
  • Optional add-ins: Squeeze of fresh lime juice or a squirt of sweetener such as stevia

Notes

If you like frozen slushies then add some extra ice and blend this drink up! You can also add in some fresh or frozen raspberries as a delicious topping
