Free first day of school mad libs

The mad libs include a full page story outlining the first day of school. There will be 2 mad libs included in this download: A first day of school mad lib and a first day of homeschool mad lib. They are clever and will hopefully get some good laughs. Not only did my kids enjoy them, but my husband and I also found them so fun!

How to complete the mad lib

The child will start with filling out the page with the list of words. Then have the child fill in the blanks in the story with their created words. You can print them double sided to have the activity on 1 sheet of paper per child. Depending on the child’s reading level you can have them read aloud their funny story.

What is a mad lib?

A mad lib is a word game where you substitute certain words within a story. You create words for different categories (nouns, verbs, color, shape, etc.) and then place those random words into a story. It creates a humorous and fun story to read aloud! This mad lib story is specific for the first day of school.

More first day of school traditions

A fun back to school breakfast tradition!

  1. Capture the memory with a photo! I bought a simple board at dollar tree. Here is another option on amazon. If you can, join in the photo too. You will be glad you have this memory captured.
  2. Write a encouraging note for your child’s backpack or lunch. If you homeschool, place it in their room for them to find.
  3. Shopping for a new first day of school outfit.
  4. Have a special after school snack. Something that they love that you typically don’t buy or make.
  5. Set a goal for the upcoming year. You can do a short term and a long term goal.
  6. In the evening, go out for ice cream, have a movie night, or a game night.
