Yoto Card Recommendations for a 4 Year Old

I never anticipated when my 4 year old was gifted a Yoto player, how much he would love and use it! Then I never anticipated ALL THE OPTIONS of cards and stories. Here are my family’s Yoto card recommendations for a 4 year old. All of these recommendations our son has enjoyed listening to over and over and over again.

This post is not sponsored. I hope to just simply pass along helpful info from my family to yours!

We are a Bible believing, Christian household so you will see recommendations here reflect this. For the fiction recommendations, we do our best to screen clean and appropriate stories for our children.

Yoto card recommendations for a 4 year old

The Gruffalo: A story of a mouse strolling through the deep woods and coming into contact with an owl, a snake and a hungry Gruffalo!

Stuart Little: Join Stuart on a big adventure to find his best friend, Margalo. My son has listened to this card more times than I can count.

Robin Hood: I probably should have put this at the top of the list because my son LOVES this story! It has sparked great conversation in our household and the songs throughout it are a fun addition.

Paw Patrol Pup Pack: A series of 6 cards, each one highlighting one of the main paw patrol characters. They provide a bunch of info on them and then end the card with a little quiz about each pup.

Nerdy Babies Collection: This is a series where a narrator discusses 8 different topics while a little kid chimes in occasionally. The 8 topics include: ocean, space, weather, rocks, transportation, dinosaurs, rain forest, and insects. It is very factual and if your kid enjoys how things work/details this would be for them. Heads up: The dinosaur one does speaks of the age of the earth and breaks the dinosaur period down into 3 prehistoric eras (Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous) and how an asteroid destroyed the dinosaurs.

The Magic Tree House (Books 1-8): A 8-pack of cards reading the first 9 books of the magic treehouse series. This series follows Jack and Annie, a brother and sister who discover a magic tree house filled with books that transport them to different times and places based on the book they read.

Make Your Own (MYO) Yoto card recommendations

Make your own Yoto cards can be a very cost effective way to have new cards in the rotation. You can always erase and replace the content on them as needed. You can buy make your own yoto cards here. Here are some of our favorite stories to add on them!

The Big Picture Story Bible – This is a read aloud of The Big Picture Story Bible by David Helm. There are 26 episodes in the podcast series (very short episodes). I downloaded them through the podcast rss feed and added to a MYO card.

Little Pilgrim’s Big Journey (3 Part Story by Lithos Kids)- This is a child version of Paul Bunyan’s ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’. There are some more intense scenes of Beelzebub’s castle if you have a child that gets scared easily! Each of their audiobooks is available for $5 on their website. Once purchased they will e-mail you the mp3 files. I downloaded them on my computer and made a playlist on the Yoto website. Then I was able to open the playlist on the yoto app on my phone and link to a card.

Peter Rabitt and Friends by Beatrix Potter – Includes 19 different tracks each one highlighting a different character. “The Tale of Petter Rabbit” “The Tale of Benjamin Bunny” etc. These stories I found available as a free download on the “discover” tab in the Yoto App. If you have not looked at the “discover” section of the yoto app, you should. There is so much free audio available!

Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne – This is the unabridged version and is 2 hrs and 20 minutes in total. This story I found available for a free download on the “discover” tab in the Yoto App.

Podcasts we play through the Bluetooth function

Did you know your Yoto Mini can serve as a Bluetooth speaker? Use your favorite podcast app to play a podcast. Here are some of our favorites!

Thomas & Friends Storytime (US): A variety of stories taking place on the magical island of Sodor including Thomas the tank Engine and all the other engines!

Holtzem Family Reads – This podcast is filled with a variety of books read by the Holtzem family. I first found them because they read aloud Magic Tree House Books which we love listening to. Additionally, they have large variety of clean, family-friendly stories read aloud.

Very Veggie Silly Stories: Hosted by Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. This podcast has a theme for each episode (faithful friends, respect, loyalty) and is full of clever stories and songs.
